Short version: your documents stay on your computer. We never see them.

Your documents

Direct PDF Editor opens, edits and saves PDFs entirely on your computer. It does not upload your documents, their text or pictures of them anywhere. Text recognition for scanned pages uses the recognition built into Windows, which also runs on your computer.

What the app sends over the internet

  • License activation and checks. When you enter a license key, the app sends the key and a name for this computer (its Windows computer name and a short code derived from this Windows installation) to our license server (license.editdirectpdf.com), which confirms the key and registers the computer as one of its activations. About once a week afterwards the app asks the same service whether the key is still valid. No document data is ever sent.
  • Update check. Once a day the app downloads a small file from editdirectpdf.com that says which version is the newest. As with any web request, our host sees your IP address; we do not keep a log of these requests tied to anyone.

The app has no advertising, no analytics and no crash reporting that sends data. If you contact support and attach a log file or a PDF, we use it only to help you and delete it once your question is solved.

What stays on your computer

The app keeps its license file, its log (which lists what it did, never the contents of your PDFs), its settings, your recent files list and, if you ask it to, your saved signature. It lives in the folders %APPDATA%\com.directpdfeditor.app and %LOCALAPPDATA%\com.directpdfeditor.app; uninstalling the app with the option to delete its data removes them, or you can delete them yourself.

Buying

Purchases are processed by Paddle, our merchant of record. They collect your name, email address, billing country and payment details to process the payment and handle tax, under their privacy policy. We never receive your card details.

When an order is paid, Paddle tells our license server, which keeps your name, email address, order number and license key, and the names of the computers you activate the key on, so it can deliver and check your key and so we can support you. The email with your key is sent through Resend, our email provider. The site and the license server run on our own server at Amazon Web Services (AWS Lightsail).

This website

This site sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising trackers. Our server keeps short-lived logs (such as IP addresses and pages requested) for two weeks, for security and to keep the site running; the app's daily update check is not logged.

Your rights and contact

You can ask us what we hold about you, to correct it or to delete it, by writing to support@editdirectpdf.com. We will answer within 30 days.
